Genius Hour Update

Ella and I have been sick for the last few weeks, because of this our genius hour blogs have been delayed. We are eager to get our supplies this week and start creating and changing our soaps. Recently we have been emailing and texting Rocky Mountain Soaps to ask for advice and any ingredients they would suggest.

Genius Hour Plan

In the upcoming months my goal is to make soap bars. To be able to achieve my goal, my plan is to find an expert. Throughout the experience Rocky Mountain Soaps will be there for me to refer back to or compare with. In the next blog I will be taking pictures of Rocky Mountain Soaps and learning what materials are needed in order to have a basic soap bar recipe.

Once I have a basic recipe, making all 4 seasonal soaps will become easier. I will be able to add other scents, dyes, and spices to make the different soaps just by having a base soap first. In order to make our soap bars successful we will need supplies such as ice molds and metal thread.

Genius Hour Introduction

Hey, my name is Devan, I am a 13 year old grade eight student in junior high. I live in Edmonton with my older brother, my parents and my guinea pig. Some hobbies I have are ball hockey, badminton, volleyball, basketball and i’m on my school’s Senior girls volleyball team. Besides school athletic activities I play league basketball and am in 2 badminton clubs.

My partner Ella and I are working together to learn how to make soap for our genius hour work period. Our hope is to learn about all the ingredients Rocky Mountain Soaps uses in their bars and use some for the soaps we want to create. Rocky Mountain Soaps is a skin care company who uses organic products and sells items such as soap bars, lip balms, hand sanitizer and bath bombs. The soaps Ella and I would like to create represent all 4 seasons. For spring we have lavender, for summer we have honey lemon, for autumn we have pumpkin spice and for winter we have gingerbread.
